Faith Hill, country music's Kanye West
I'm sure everybody has heard about this by now. The entire world, and a majority of the internet, is trading opinions about Faith Hill's reaction to losing Female Vocalist of the Year to American Idol's Carrie Underwood, at the annual CMA awards on Monday night.
The first story from the Hill camp is that she didn't know the camera was on. Right. How many award shows have you been to, Faith? You're nominated for an award, you're standing backstage, they're about to announce the winner, and you have a camera pointed at you. Did you think that thing was going to start hurling tennis balls at you or something? You sure as hell didn't appear to have a racket in your hand, so my guess is you knew exactly what was going on.
Then the story changed to suggest it was a joke. Again...right. What kind of moron pulls this kind of stunt on purpose? You're at a ritzy award show, where everyone is dressed up and dignified, and you're going to play a little joke by acting like you're pissed that you didn't win, and make yourself look like an ass in front of millions of people, including everyone at the show? What kind of career move is that? Not buying it, Faith.
Then, we have an official statement from Faith herself on her website that reads as follows:
"The idea that I would act disrespectful towards a fellow musician is unimaginable to me. For this to become a focus of attention given the talent gathered is utterly ridiculous. Carrie Underwood is a talented and deserving Female Vocalist of The Year."
Well, Faith, if your reaction was a joke, then that's exactly what you wanted everyone to think...that you were pissed off, and thereby disrespecting a fellow musician! So which is it?
Let's let the video speak for itself:
Faith, you screwed up. You made a bad, knee-jerk decision to react poorly, and you should have owned up to it and apologized to Carrie and your fans. Instead, you've shown the world your true colors, and you'll be lucky to get back whatever amount of respect you had before.
Best wishes, Diva.

Um… I think the comparison to Kanye West might be a little off base. Kanye is pretty much lower than whale excrement as compared to the rest of the population of the world, where as Faith has done quite a bit of good, in my estimation, and I still find myself quite fond of her and her music. This small incident, for me, changes nothing.
I find it quite normal for her to have a negative reaction to someone with the…unrefined…talent (singing at least) of Carrie Underwood having just won a very prestigious award. It isn’t right and I can’t blame her for being upset.
I am quite sure that would one of the other, seasoned, not to mention talented, artists have won her reaction would have been far different. If not… Then I might think a little differently.
Nice. I guess another reason to be glad I'm not famous (people catching my all-too-human reactions on film forever!)
I didn't really make a comparison to Kanye West, other than in the title. Her reaction to losing was definitely, extremely reminiscent of Kanye's last week, and from scanning the news and chat forums on the internet, I'm not the only one who thinks so. Both their names have been thrown together since Monday night, like it or not. ;-)
But again, I'm certainly not comparing her to him. His ilk should be unemployed in most professions known to man, and admittedly, Faith has done her share of good without the kind of bad press that seems to keep following Kanye around.
Using her name and Kanye West in the same sentence is like using Hitler and Mother Teresa.
Regardless of what the rest of the masses might be saying... ;)
I think this too is just another example of the damned invasiveness in private moments that have come about with people trying to find anything they can at any time to embarrass celebrity figures. Who really cares what her (what should have been private) reaction was to what happened on stage. She didn’t go marching out there like Mr. Whale Crap did… She didn’t hold a press conference to bitch and moan about the subject… She had an autonomous reaction to something… Which is normal… We all have them… And it shouldn’t have been splashed all over the Internet… And people should not be dogging her for being a human being.
But, this is all just my personal opinion and, of course, everyone may think or say what they will. I just don’t happen to agree…
Well, you and slacker are both right. She is a human being, and had a human reaction. But it was a bad reaction. It was a rude reaction. It was a disrespectful reaction. Regardless of whether she's a celebrity or not, or whether may want to be or not, she is one, nonetheless, and with that one has to use a little more discretion in how they act, escpecially in a very public setting like that, and with millions of people watching.
I'm sure after it was done, she probably backtracked a little and said "you know, maybe I should handled that better", but again, she chose the path of denial and face-saving, and that's what doubled it for her in the public's eyes. It would have all been done with if she had just come out in an interview afterward, or even on her website, and issued an apology.
My bottom line, crediting her with a perfectly human reaction doesn't excuse the fact that it was rude and disrespectful, dealt out in the wrong place at the wrong time. Common politeness was in order, and anything bitchy she may have had to say about Carrie winning the award, or even about Carrie herself, could have been done in the privacy of her own home.
And again, notice that in this commentary I didn't compare her with Mr. West. I judged this action on its own merit.
So there. :P

Well… I still personally have no issue with how she reacted, only with how some elect to try to vilify her for a spontaneous moment. I’ve watched the video multiple times now… It is clear to me that there was nothing planned in her reaction… It simply happened… It was beyond control… It was one of those, “WHAT THE FUCK!”, moments…pardon my French.
Therefore, I simply can not, nor will I, elect to believe that she was trying to be either rude or disrespectful. It simply was what it was… I think even Jesus had a “bad” reaction documented once in his life… In the temple with the money changers… And if He is allowed a moment like that, then I think the world can give Faith a break on this one.
Oh… A small side note about her choosing a path of denial… In all likelihood, it was her hired publicist that elected that route. But even if it wasn’t… It also is a normal, human reaction to go into a defensive mode when attacked. So under present circumstances, I can understand her response.
But like I said before… This is just all my personal, subjective opinion…
Oh, I truly believe there was nothing planned in her reaction. I think that much is a given. That's why I said from the beginning that she reacted poorly, and should have owned up to it afterward. She had to have known that she was going to catch flack afterward. Like I said, afterward I'm quite sure she said "oops" or something to that extent, but publicists and management be damned, she has control over how she's portrayed to the public, and I'm sure the decision to make that statement of denial had her total stamp of approval.
In the words of the philosopher Gump, "That's all I have to say about that." The internet has grown tired of talking about it, and so have I.
